Editorial policy

Accessibility and periodicity

FiSHMED is an online, fully open-access journal. Articles will be available online as soon as their final version is produced. Yearly volumes will be closed at the end of each natural year , including all articles published within it.

No publication charges

FISHMED is a fully open-access journal and does not charge anything for the publication of articles.

Publication criteria

The acceptance of a manuscript to be published in FiSHMED will be based on their technical and formal quality. General interest or novelty will not be determinant criterion to accept or reject works, since they will be judged by the readership after publication.

The criteria for publication will be the following:

  • The work and its main results have not been published elsewhere.
  • The technical aspects (sampling design, laboratory work, statistical analyses, etc.) are well described and developed and have no important flaws.
  • The text is well organized, with clear statements of what is being analysed and with a discussion based on how the work’s results confirm or refute those initial ideas.
  • The work is concise. Manuscripts should not be longer than they need to be to communicate the main ideas proposed in the work. Unnecessary explanations, statistical analyses, tables and figures should not be included in the text.
  • The text is well written in correct, simple English, being easy to understand to a broad international readership.
  • The work adheres to applicable standards for the ethics of experimentation and research integrity. When applicable, experimentation permits and authorization collection permits should be stated on the acknowledgements section.

Peer review

Once a manuscript is received it is evaluated by the editorial team in order to evaluate its adherence to the formal aspects of publication criteria (organization, length, clarity). If the formal quality of the paper is judged sufficient, the work is submitted to peer review. Manuscripts will be reviewed by one or more external experts selected by the editorial team, who will remain anonymous in all cases.

Authorship

All and no more than those making a relevant contribution for the development of submitted works should be cited as authors. Upon submission, the contribution of each author should be made explicit.

Copyright and licenses

Upon article acceptance, authors will be asked to accept an open access Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0). Authors will retain ownership of the copyright of their articles, but the license permits share (copy and redistribute in any medium or format) and adapt (remix, transform, and build upon for any purpose, even commercially) the article, as long as appropriate credit is given to the authors and the source of the work.
